Keep Warm and Fashionable With Petite Winter Coats

For a lot of people, the term “petite” means the same thing as “small”. However, it actually refers to a person’s height. You can be a petite lady but your dress size could range from the very small to double XL. Buying petite winter coats is a challenge for many small women. Very often, fashion has to be compromised in the name of warmth.

A full-length coat made of heavy material may provide warmth, but may not be the best petite winter apparel if you don’t want to look overwhelmed by your clothes. Also, while a double-breasted coat looks gorgeous on a runway model, the same outfit on a petite woman can make her look larger than she is, and even emphasize her lack of height. However, a single-breasted and slim-cut coat can make a larger-sized but short woman look good. A flattering coat for a shorter woman is usually one that has a slim cut and which ends at the hip.

It can be difficult to find petite winter coats when the shelves are full of puffy jackets and coats. Bright colors too can cause a smaller woman to look short and squat. In order to circumvent this, you can go for a well-cut pea coat accessorized with a decorative belt that highlights the waist to create a slim silhouette. A bright color appears less overwhelming when paired with a cut that suits a petite figure; don’t be afraid to go for bright reds or pinks when you’ve find a coat you like.

Sometimes, it can be hard looking for petite winter apparel that looks good in weather that is fiercely cold. A coat that ends at the hips may do little to keep the wind chill factor down. Instead, try wearing tailored, single-breasted coats that end just at the knee. To create a longer, slimmer silhouette, try a princess cut cinched at the waist.

Try to make it a point to buy a winter coat even if you do live in a warmer climate. You never know when you might travel to a colder one but you would surely want to look good in it when you do!
